Solar Eclipse Viewing Party 2024
by Rick Straw (PACIV’s President and CEO)
On April 8, 2024, residents of Indianapolis were treated to a captivating celestial event as a total solar eclipse graced the skies. Indiana also had more than a million visitors trying to get a glimpse of the eclipse in the path of totality. As the moon passed between the Earth and the sun, a remarkable scene unfolded, casting a temporary shadow over the city and surrounding areas. Observers were awed by the gradual dimming of daylight, culminating in a breathtaking moment of totality where the sun was completely obscured, revealing the sun’s ethereal corona. This rare astronomical phenomenon brought together people from all walks of life, fostering a sense of wonder and appreciation for the wonders of the universe. We had experienced a partial eclipse in 2017, but the path of totality this time really made for an awesome spectacle.
Some of the PACIV Indianapolis team celebrated the event with our building owners and neighbors, Gilliatte Construction, as we enjoyed lunch with “out of this world” clever themes and games, awaiting the total darkness from 3:06-3:09 pm.
Photographer and friend of PACIV, James Herman, took some pictures of the skies and graciously allowed us to share them, trying to capture what could only really be enjoyed completely by seeing the event with one’s own eyes (through protective glasses, of course). It was definitely a memorable and moving event.
